The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Thursday welcomed the appointment of Court of Appeals (CA) Associate Justice Socorro Inting as the poll body’s newest commissioner.

Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said Inting’s “long experience in the judiciary will be a valuable asset” to the poll body, which is short of two commissioners.

Inting’s appointment was officially announced by Malacañang on Thursday. Jimenez said Inting, who hails from Davao City like President Duterte, would take the place of Commissioner Arthur Lim, who retired in February.

The other members of the poll body are Commissioners Sheriff Abas, Al Parreño, Rowena Guanzon and Luie Guia.  — JULIE M. AURELIO
