Police and the National Bureau of Investigation on Friday night arrested four Manila policemen who allegedly tried to extort P50,000 from an Egyptian in exchange for dropping a drug charge against him.

The policemen were arrested in an entrapment operation after they agreed to cash a P50,000 check that the Egyptian had issued.

Arrested were SPO3 Ranny Dionisio, PO3 Richard Bernal, PO1 Elequiel Fernandez and PO1 Arjay Lasap, all of the intelligence section of the Manila Police District Malate station.

Senior Supt. Jose Chiquito Malayo, head of the Philippine National Police Counter-Intelligence Task Force, said the policemen were rounded up around 6 p.m. on Friday at a convenience store on Quirino Avenue corner Mabini Street in Malate. —Jeannette I. Andrade
