Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III proposed a shorter period of closure for the world-famous but heavily polluted Boracay island, saying two months would be enough.

“The shorter, the better,” he told reporters.

He said a longer period of closure would bring heavy losses to businesses and lead to unemployment.

Closing the island for two months, he added, would be “reasonable for people to get together” in cleaning up Boracay. —Christine O. Avendaño
