A low pressure area (LPA) earlier monitored east of extreme northern Luzon has developed into a tropical depression, the state weather bureau said on Saturday.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration located tropical depression “Fabian” 110 kilometers south southeast of Basco, Batanes. It said Fabian could bring moderate to heavy rain within its 300-km diameter.

Fabian, which was 45 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 60 kph, was moving at a pace of 16 kph. It is expected to cross Batanes and Babuyan Group of Islands Saturday.

Tropical cyclone warning signal number 1 has been raised in Batanes and Northern Cagayan including Babuyan Group of Islands.
