LPA brings rains

Strong winds and rain lash a residential area in Manila on July 22, 2015, as the country faces the onset of monsoon season. Days of monsoon rains have left five people dead and forced about 4,000 people to flee their homes due to flooding and landslides in the northern Philippines, civil defence officers said. Continuous rains and cloudy skies will prevail over the entire western Visayas region and in parts of southern Luzon over the weekend due to a low pressure area (LPA) off Palawan province, according to the weather bureau.

In its 24-hour weather forecast issued at 5 p.m. on Friday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the LPA, estimated at 90 kilometers west-northwest of Cuyo, Palawan, would bring cloudy skies with moderate to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms over western Visayas, the Bicol region and the provinces of Romblon, Marinduque, Occidental and Oriental Mindoro, Northern Palawan and Quezon. — JAYMEE T.
