ZAMBOANGA CITY—A militiaman was critically wounded when an undetermined number of Abu Sayyaf bandits ambushed a dump truck loaded with government paramilitary forces in Sumisip, Basilan, on Saturday, a military spokesperson said.

Major Filemon Tan Jr., spokesperson of the Western Mindanao Command, said Gajalal Hatiman suffered a serious wound in the head when bandits fired on the dump truck he and other militiamen were riding as they were passing by Sitio Bunkhouse in Barangay Limbo Candis around 12:20 p.m.

The militiamen were returning to their duty in Barangay Pamatsaken, Tan said.
