Magnitude 6 quake jolts southern, central Mindanao

TAGUM CITY – An earthquake shook several areas of southern and central Mindanao around 6:53 a.m. Saturday, the US Geological Services (USGS) said.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the quake measured at magnitude 6 and took place 32 kilometers southeast of Mati at a depth of 39 kilometers.

Phivolcs said it was not expecting damages from the tectonic quake but has anticipated aftershocks.

The quake’s epicenter was in Barangay (village) Bobon in Mati, Davao Oriental and had a depth of 69 kilometers, the USGS said in its initial report. The USGS earlier reported that the quake measured at 6.5 magnitude.

It was felt in Davao Oriental, Davao City, Digos City, North Cotabato and South Cotabato.

There were no reports of damages and injuries as of this posting. CDG
