SUBIC, Zambales – A fisherman from Masinloc town has been missing in the West Philippine Sea since Sunday after his boat was reportedly hit by a commercial vessel.

Gerald Malinao, 29, of Barangay (village) Inhobol in Masinloc was separated from a group of other fishermen while fishing some 20 miles from the province, said Dario Diaz, head of the Municipal Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management Council in Masinloc.

Diaz said a commercial ship ran into Malinao’s 7-meter long motor boat on Sunday night.

“The collision damaged Malinao’s boat light, causing him to vanish in the dark,” Diaz told the INQUIRER over phone.

He said he has alerted coast guard and maritime authorities about the incident to find Malinao. CDG
