MALACAÑANG on Monday warned the public against unscrupulous persons pretending to be members of the Office of the President and engaging in illegal solicitation activities.

In a statement, Malacañang said these persons were soliciting money supposedly to fund a victory party for President Duterte’s followers and supporters.

The President, who has  been in office only for 18 days, had his official victory party last June 4 at the Davao Crocodile Park.

Days before the event, other groups have used the name of Presidential Spokesperson Peter Laviña for the same racket. Laviña denied this on June 3, saying that law enforcers have caught the persons behind the scam. Kirsten Jamilla, INQUIRER.net trainee/rga
