Anti-coal advocate shot dead in Bataan

MARIVELES, Bataan—An anti-coal advocate was shot dead inside her videoke bar on Friday night, police said.

Gloria Capitan, 57, died from head and neck wounds after she was attacked by motorcycle riding gunmen at 8 p.m. outside the bar she manages.

She heads a group of residents in Lucanin village who have objected to a coal storage plant project near their neighborhood.

Capitan’a husband is a member of the village council.
