The Department of Health (DOH) on Friday reminded the public to be vigilant against Zika virus following confirmation that a 20-year-old Korean fell ill and tested positive for the mosquito-borne disease shortly after his visit to the Philippines.

Health Secretary Janette Garin said that while the health agency was still verifying if indeed the Korean tourist contracted the virus in the country, it bolstered beliefs that the virus, which has been closely linked to a severe brain defect, has been lurking in the country.
