CEBU CITY—More than 100 taxi units blocked a portion of L. Briones Street in front of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board in Central Visayas (LTFRB-7) to protest the reduction of their flag-down rates.

Some drivers carried placards, calling for the “immediate resignation” of LTFRB chair Winston Gines.

“We were asked by our operator to join the protest then we can resume driving our units tomorrow,” said one taxi driver who did not want to be named.

Drivers started to gather in the area about 9 a.m. and occupied the northbound lane of L. Briones Street, obstructing the flow of traffic in the area.

Slow moving traffic was also experienced on the road’s southbound lane.
