MANILA, Philippines–The Philippine Navy and the Philippine Air Force (PAF) on Monday began a five-day joint exercise aimed at improving their capabilities in maritime operations.

Dubbed “Dagit,” the joint training, which was launched in Sangley Point in Cavite, will focus on antisurface, antisubmarine and anti-air warfare operations.

Naval public affairs office chief Lcdr. Marineth Domingo said the exercises would be held from Nov. 3 to 7 at the naval base and on Manila Bay.

The annual interoperability training was opened by Philippine Fleet commander, Rear Adm. Jaime Bernardino.

Participating Navy forces include one patrol gunboat, four aircraft and personnel from the Naval Special Operations Group and Philippine Marine Corps.

Meanwhile, the PAF sent seven aircraft and personnel from the 710th Special Operations Wing.

The exercises will include subject matter expertise exchanges, shipboard tactical maneuvers, close air support operations, helicopter operations, gunnery exercises, maritime air surveillance and communication exercises.
