PNP chief Purisima faces Senate

MANILA, Philippines – After missing two hearings, Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Alan Purisima finally appeared at the Senate on Tuesday.

Purisima faced the committees on public order and dangerous drugs with local government and finance over the PNP modernization and other peace and order concerns.

The PNP chief was absent when the committee led by Senator Grace Poe conducted its hearing last September 16. His absence angered Poe and a member, Senator Vicente “Tito” Sotto III.

Purisima was again a no-show during the hearing of the committee on finance on the proposed 2015 budget of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and its attached agencies last September 24. His representative told the committee that the police chief was attending an anti-kidnapping and anti-extortion consultation in Bogota, Colombia.

Purisima has been hogging the headlines amid allegations that he has amassed unexplained wealth.
