Japan issues tsunami alert after Chile quake

Japan's 14th typhoon, "Nanmadol," brought ferocious winds and record rainfall to the west of the country and jilled at least two people.

TOKYO—Japan issued a tsunami alert early Thursday following a powerful 8.2-magnitude earthquake across the Pacific Ocean in Chile.

The Japan Meteorological Agency said a tsunami of up to 1.0 meter (three feet) may hit eastern Pacific coast regions.
