Never again to ‘Ondoy’

10:35 PM September 10, 2011

MANILA, Philippines–To prevent a repeat of the damages wrought by Tropical Storm “Ondoy” in 2009, several nongovernment organizations signed a “resolution” in Marikina on Saturday enjoining others to create committees that will facilitate community mobilization should disasters strike.

The resolution was signed by the Community Response for Enlightenment, Service and Transformation, Akap Bata and Agham, among others, in a forum on disaster management held at the Marikina Sports Center.

The forum, with the theme “Batang Marikina: Sa Paaralan at Bahay, Basta sa Disaster Laging Ready,” was an initiative of the three NGOs in collaboration with the Marikina City government, the Philippine Volcanology and Seismology, and the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.
