Jeep barkers survive attack

A 30-YEAR-OLD man was critically wounded after he was shot by three unidentified gunmen while he was drinking with friends in barangay Buaya, Lapu-Lapu City.

Benjie Carellas sustained eight gunshot wounds in the body. One of his friends, Gilbert Casalles, was wounded in the right leg after he was hit by a stray bullet while seeking cover from the gunfire.

Carellas and Cassales, both jeepney dispatchers, were taken to a hospital in Cebu City.

Police said that while Carellas’ group were drinking around 10 p.m. Wednesday, three men on a motorcycle arrived.

As soon as they alighted from their motorcycle, the three men started shooting at Carellas.

The gunmen drove away after the attack.

A few hours after the incident, police arrested Vergel Godinez, a 21-year-old resident of barangay Buaya, after he was identified by witnesses as one of the assailants.

A .357 revolver loaded with six bullets was recovered from Godnez’s possession, police said.

Godinez denied involvement in the attack but admitted he owns the gun. /CORRESPONDENT NORMAN V. MENDOZA
