ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Some 120 pupils of the Immaculate Conception Archdiocesan School sent letters and drawings to show their support to government soldiers and police personnel fighting Moro National Liberation Front (MILF) forces here since Sept. 9.
The letters were handed to the Philippine Daily Inquirer, which later turned it over to Mayor Ma. Isabelle Climaco-Salazar.
The mayor gave the letters to the Task Force Igsoon (Brother/Sister), whose troops and policemen are engaged in the fight against MNLF forces.
The children wrote and drew messages like ‘We love,” “Save our city,” “You are our savior” and many more.
The MNLF faction led by Nur Misuari attacked this city on Sept. 9, taking hostages along the way and sparking armed conflict that has displaced thousands of residents.
The Misuari faction is protesting what they thought to be government’s failure to implement the 1996 peace agreement between the Philippine government and the MNLF.
