14 nabbed for illegal drug use in Laguna

MANILA, Philippines — Fourteen people were arrested in Laguna following a campaign against illegal drugs in Biñan City before dawn Thursday, police said.

Chief Superintendent Benito Estipona said the suspects were arrested after they were allegedly caught sniffing suspected “shabu” (methamphetamine hydrochloride) along a railway in Sitio Tramo Barangay (village) Canlalay in Biñan City.

Confiscated from the suspects were two sachets containing suspected shabu with street value of P1,000 and paraphelnalia like foil, tooter, lighter and empty sachets.

“That is part of our sustained anti-drug operations to in a bid to lessen crimes,” Estipona said, noting that the location where the suspects were arrested was the same area where 65 persons were caught for the same offense last February 15.

The arrested suspects and pieces of evidence were bsubjected to tests and lab examination, while papers are being prepared for filing, Estipona said.
