Soldiers clash with rebels in Negros

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines—About 10 New People’s Army rebels and soldiers from the 62nd Infantry Batallion engaged in a 20-minute firefight at about 7 a.m. Wednesday in Barangay (village) Bandila, Toboso,  Negros Occidental.

Colonel Oscar Lactao, 303rd Infantry Brigade commander, said there were no casualties and pursuit operations were ongoing.

Two Air Force gunships were on standby for support if needed, Lactao said.
