Red tide alert lifted in Bolinao, Anda

The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) has declared the waters of Bolinao and Anda towns in western Pangasinan free of red tide after three consecutive tests proved that the areas no longer showed signs of toxin.

BFAR Regional Director Nestor Domenden said the red tide episode from November 23 to December 19 was the shortest incidence of the phenomenon that occurred so far in those areas.

He said fishermen and residents may now gather and consume all types of shellfish and “alamang” (Acetis sp.).

It was the second time this year that the red tide phenomenon struck along the coastal Pangasinan towns, BFAR records showed. Red tide occurrences normally take place in January. Yolanda Sotelo, Inquirer Northern Luzon
