Gateway mall fire under control

MANILA, Philippines—The fire at the Gateway mall in the Araneta Center in Cubao, Quezon City has been put out after more than two hours, a National Capital Region Bureau of Fire Protection officer said.

Fire Officer 3 Sheila Balaba said the fire at the mall’s basement reached third alarm before it was completely put out at 12:16 a.m. Saturday.

Radio reports earlier quoted Quezon City fire marshall, Fire Officer 2 Albert Flores, as saying that the fire, which started at 10:05 p.m. Friday, might have been caused by a faulty generator.

No other information was available as of posting, but Balaba said no immediate reports on injuries have reached their office.
