USJ-R sets up final showdown with USC in Cesafi tertiary football tournament
THE University of San Jose Recoletos (USJ-R) advanced to the finals in the tertiary football competition of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) after edging the University of the Visayas, 1-0, yesterday at the Cebu City Sports Center.
USJ-R ended a four-year finals drought after a 70th minute goal by Junifer Edero. The Jaguars will face defending champion University of San Carlos this Sunday.
The Jaguars were Cesafi champions from 2000 to 2007. Last year, they failed to advance to the finals after bowing to the University of Southern Philippines Foundation in the semifinals.
USJ-R advanced to the semifinals after topping the standings with 10 points equivalent to three wins and a draw.
UV, on the other hand, will face the University of Cebu for third place. /CORRESPONDENT MARS G. ALISON
