2 riders dead, 1 hurt in motorcycle-van collision in Quezon
LUCENA CITY — Two motorcycle riders died and another person was injured early Tuesday, May 6, when their motorcycle collided with a van in Tayabas City, Quezon province.
The fatalities, “Allan” and his back rider “Jigs,” both residents of Parañaque City, were traveling along Maharlika Highway in Barangay Isabang at 2:21 a.m. when the motorcycle collided head-on with an oncoming van driven by “Eric,” according to a police report released Wednesday, May 7.
Both riders suffered severe injuries and were taken to Quezon Medical Center in Lucena City. Allan was declared dead on arrival, while Jigs died while undergoing treatment.
A passenger in the van, identified as “Brie,” was also injured and remains under medical care.
Initial investigation revealed that the motorcycle suddenly changed lanes and hit the oncoming vehicle.
Authorities said further investigation was ongoing.
The report did not state whether the motorcycle riders were wearing crash helmets, which are required under the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009.
