MANILA, Philippines —The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Sunday said it has issued a show cause order (SCO) against the driver and the registered owners of the trailer truck that recently caused heavy traffic along Marcos Highway.

In a statement, the LTO said the trailer truck and tractor head were placed under alarm to prevent any transaction in the LTO pending the result of the investigation.

“Failure to appear and submit the written comments/explanations as required shall be construed by this Office as a waiver of your rights to be heard, and the case shall be decided based on the evidence at hand,” the SCO signed by LTO-Intelligence and Investigation Division chief Renante Melitante read.

On May 2, a trailer truck tilted and came to a stop at the U-turn slot along a portion of Marcos Highway, affecting the flow of traffic.

It resulted in the temporary closure of the U-turn slot by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority and disrupted traffic flow in the area.

“This is where common sense and road discipline come in again. If you can already tell that it’s risky to squeeze your vehicle through a certain road, why insist? It’s exactly because of the lack of discipline and concern for fellow motorists that some drivers force their way through — and the result is inconvenience for everyone else,” LTO chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II said in Filipino in the statement.

He said that as Transport Secretary Vince Dizon has directed, “We must stand up against this kind of driver behavior to show that if in the past they could get away with such violations, that’s no longer the case. Now, they will truly be held accountable.”
