Manila Water Infratech Solutions deploys 1st treatment plant in Calbayog

Manila Water Infratech Solutions (MWIS), an operating unit of Manila Water which provides products and services for water and wastewater projects, has successfully deployed its first i-TECH Packaged Sewer Treatment Plant (STP) at the Calbayog Water Septage Treatment Facility (SpTP) in Calbayog City.
MANILA, Philippines – Manila Water Infratech Solutions (MWIS), an operating unit of Manila Water which provides products and services for water and wastewater projects, has successfully deployed its first i-TECH Packaged Sewer Treatment Plant (STP) at the Calbayog Water Septage Treatment Facility (SpTP) in Calbayog City.
This innovative project represents a major advancement in sanitation and environmental protection for the Calbayog City and underscores MWIS’s commitment to providing efficient and sustainable wastewater treatment solutions.
Initially designed to process 10 cubic meters of wastewater per day, the packaged STP is capable to expand up to 20 cubic meters per day. This flexible design ensures that the Calbayog Water concession can meet increasing demands for efficient wastewater treatment, projected to accommodate up to 15,000 households within a five-year cycle, operating 240 days per year. The said SpTp is the first septage treatment plant in Calbayog City designed to meet the sanitation needs of domestic customers.
The i-Tech Packaged STP is a compact and durable STP which incorporates and utilizes the state-of-the-art membrane bioreactor (MBR) technology to efficiently filter contaminants and pathogens, including nitrates and phosphates, ensuring compliance with the latest effluent standards set by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

The innovation also enhances sustainable operations and environmental protection for Calbayog City. The effluent produced by the i-TECH plant is suitable for non-potable reuse, such as irrigation and cleaning, thereby promoting sustainability. Additionally, the sludge generated during the treatment process can be repurposed as valuable soil fertilizer, demonstrating circular bioeconomy by reintegrating waste materials into the economy.
“This project highlights our dedication to delivering sustainable and eco-friendly solutions,” said Engr. Jose Paulo Serias, General Manager of MWIS. “The i-TECH Packaged Sewer Treatment Plant not only complies with the rigorous standards of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) but also provides substantial benefits in terms of resource conservation,” he added.
