Woman motorcycle rider dies in Quezon road mishap

LUCENA CITY — A female motorcyclist died in a road mishap early Wednesday in Candelaria town in Quezon province, a police report said.

Motorcycle rider Jenelyn Copo, 21, while traversing the Maharlika Highway in Barangay Malabanban Norte at 12:50 a.m., lost control of the vehicle, the Quezon police reported.

The wayward motorcycle consequently hit a road sign, throwing the rider off.

She died while being taken to a hospital due to grave injuries she suffered when she fell on the pavement.

The report said the victim, a college student, had no crash helmet when the accident happened. Motorcycle riders are mandated to wear crash helmets under the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009.
