Manila Water joins UN Global Compact

MANILA, Philippines – Manila Water formalizes its membership in the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) at the ceremonial signing of UNGC Principles in Balara, Quezon City, on 24 January 2025.
Manila Water President and Chief Executive Officer Jocot de Dios signed the Pledge of Commitment to the UNGC, which outlines the principles that guide responsible and sustainable business practices. Joining him at the ceremony were Global Compact Network Philippines (GCNP) Chairperson Victoria Tan and Manila Water Corporate Center Director for Sustainability Sarah Bergado.
“There’s a lot that we can contribute as a water utility company. We are looking forward to our next steps. Thank you very much for seeing us as a worthy member of this movement,” Manila Water President and CEO Jocot de Dios said during the ceremony.
With the signing of the compact, Manila Water is now part of a network of businesses worldwide that align with the UNGC’s guiding principles involving the protection of human rights and the environment, improving and ensuring fair labor practices, and working against all forms of corruption.

“At this point, water is the next world problem aside from climate change. It’s good that we have Manila Water who will be championing for us,” GCNP Chairperson Victoria Tan said.
The UNGC is the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative, with more than 20,000 participating companies, 5 regional hubs, and 63 country networks covering 80 countries.
