Tanod shot dead in Lapu disco melee

A tanod was shot dead while trying to stop a rumble in a disco in barangay Buagsong, Cordova town, Mactan Island, Cebu.

Edwardo Tura, 49, took a bullet shot in the head.

Witnesses identified the alleged gunman as Ronilo Tura, 34, who was arrested hours after the shooting.

Tura, reportedly a cousin of the victim, denied involvement in the killing.

Police said that at 2 a.m. yesterday, the tanod rushed to a disco when a certain Johndo Degamo asked him to stop a fight in a disco.

Police said when Edwardo intervened to stop the fight, a group of men mauled him.

Police said that while Edwardo was being mauled, someone shot him.

The men fled when Edwardo fell to the ground wounded.

With the help of witnesses, police arrested Ronilo in his home around 10 a.m. yesterday.

Ronilo denied shooting the tanod. He said he just tried to help his brother who was being mauled by unidentified persons when the tanod was shot.
