A four-member robotics team from Makati High School will represent the Philippines at the 2024 VEX Robotics World Championship to be held in Dallas, United States, in April.
The team, called “Makatrix,” won the top prize in the VEX Robotics Competition Philippine national championship this year, giving them the chance to compete against more than 11,500 teams from 40 countries.
Makatrix is composed of four Grade 12 students who specialize in information and communications technology, namely, John Ashley Alvarado, Enriquito Yamzon, Brian Bernabe and Fritz Rivera.
They will be accompanied by their coach, Zernie Pugao. The VEX Robotics World Championship aims to develop students’ skills in science, technology, engineering and math through hands-on experience in designing, building and programming robots.

Makati Mayor Abby Binay commended the students on Tuesday, saying they would be representing not only the Philippines “but also our city’s outstanding support for cocurricular and extracurricular activities in technology and innovation.” —RUSSEL LORETO
