MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) on Friday reminded travelers this Undas and election season that some local government units (LGUs) do not allow pork due to the African Swine Fever (ASF).
According to PPA spokesperson Eunice Samonte, the PPA will have to confiscate pork from travelers upon inspection.
“Bawal po iyan. Actually, may mga ibang LGU na pinagbabawal iyan. Like for example, kahapon sa Batangas, mayroon tayong mga nasabat na mga longganisa at kutsilyo – siguro mag-a-outing ito ‘no. Ito bawal po kasi sa papuntang Mindoro iyong mga pork products dahil ito po iyong ordinansa naman ng LGU nila,” said Samonte on the Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon public briefing.

(That is now allowed. Actually, some LGUs do not allow it. For example, yesterday in Batangas, we confiscated some longganisa and knives from some travelers — they may be going on an outing. It is not allowed because they are going to Mindoro, and pork products are not allowed as per the ordinance of their LGU.)
Samonte said, however, that meats like beef are allowed. She said that the measure to ban pork was to prevent the spread of ASF.
The PPA spokesperson also said that appliances like refrigerators are not allowed at the ports.
