‘Habagat’, localized thunderstorms to bring rain, cloudy skies across PH
MANILA, Philippines — The southwest monsoon will continue to be the dominant weather disturbance affecting the country on Wednesday, with Metro Manila and the rest of the nation likely to experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms, the state weather bureau said.
The southwest monsoon, locally known as “habagat,” will bring rain in the northern and central part of Luzon, including the Ilocos Region, Zambales and Bataan, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
“Patuloy na umiiral ang southwest monsoon or habagat dito sa kanlurang bahagi ng northern at central Luzon, kung saan ngayong araw ay mayroon pa rin tayong pag-ulan na mararanasan diyan sa bahagi ng Ilocos region at sa kanlurang bahagi ng ng central Luzon,” said Pagasa weather specialist Grace Castañeda in the bureau’s public weather forecast.
(The southwest monsoon or habagat will affect the western part of northern and central Luzon. We can expect rain today over the Ilocos region and the western part of central Luzon).
For areas affected by the rain, the state weather bureau warned of possible flash floods and landslides.
Meanwhile, Pagasa is also monitoring cloud clusters east of northern Luzon, which may have a chance of becoming a low pressure area.
