Motorcycle rider yields illegal gun at Batangas checkpoint

Motorcycle rider yields illegal gun at Batangas checkpointLUCENA CITY––A motorcycle rider was caught before midnight Thursday with an illegal firearm after evading a police checkpoint in Lipa City, Batangas province.

The Calabarzon regional police reported Friday that cops manning a checkpoint at around 11:45 p.m. flagged down a motorcycle with two riders who were not wearing crash helmets for protection.

Policemen gave chase and accosted the riders, Leonardo Galon and Angelito Peñano.

Investigators said a policeman noticed a gun inside the bag of Peñano.

When opened, the bag contained one Colt .45-caliber pistol with six bullets, another magazine with six more bullets.

Peñano failed to present government documents for the gun and a permit to carry a firearm.

The suspects were detained, and Peñano will be charged with illegal possession of a firearm and violation of the election period gun ban.

Galon will also be slapped with corresponding criminal charges. INQ
