TACLOBAN CITY — A soldier died, while a civilian was wounded Wednesday after unknown assailants ambushed them in a remote village in Basey town, Samar.
The fatality was identified as Kim Hadgi, a member of the Military Intelligence Group. Arnel Olguera, who served as a civilian informant, was hit on his right hand.
Soldiers, most of them belonging to the 63rd Infantry Battalion, were in the vicinity of Sitio Guindapondan of Barangay Cogon in Basey town to verify information that two civilians were buried in the area.
The encounter between the two armed groups resulted in a 10-minute firefight.
