MANILA, Philippines — Laguna will be put under a stricter Alert Level 3 from Jan. 7 to 15 due to rising COVID-19 cases, Malacañang said on Wednesday.
“The Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) approved tonight, January 5, 2022, the recommendation of its sub-Technical Working Group on Data Analytics to escalate Laguna to Alert Level 3, due to the rising number of Covid-19 cases in the province,” Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles, the acting presidential spokesperson, said in a statement.
Three other provinces — Rizal, Bulacan, and Cavite — have been put under Alert Level 3 from Jan. 5 to 15. Meanwhile, Metro Manila is also under Alert Level 3 from Jan. 3 to 15.
Under the more stringent alert status, local governments may impose “reasonable restrictions” on intrazonal and interzonal travel.
Under Alert Level 3, certain establishments are not allowed to operate and some activities are prohibited:
- face-to-face classes in basic education
- contact sports
- funfairs
- karaoke bars, clubs, concert halls, theaters
- casinos, horse racing, cockfighting, operation of cockpits, lottery and betting shops, and other gaming establishments — except those that will be allowed by the IATF or the Office of the President
- social gatherings where individuals do not belong to the same household
The following activities will be permitted for fully vaccinated individuals, but they have to be conducted in venues with a restricted maximum capacity — 30-percent for indoor venues and 50-percent for outdoor venues:
- cinemas
- meetings, incentives, conferences, exhibitions
- social events such as wedding parties, engagements, debut, birthday parties
- tourist attractions including libraries
- amusement parks
- recreational venues
- in-person religious gatherings
- licensure exams
- dine-in services
- personal care services
- fitness studios, non-contact sports
- film, music, television production
The rest of the country is under Alert Level 2.
On Jan. 5, the Department of Health recorded 10,775 new COVID-19 infections, raising the nationwide case tally to 2,871,745.
