Duterte hit back at critics, defends remark about 'depleted' funds of gov't

The Presidential Task Force on Media Security performs a “crucial role” in protecting the country’s press freedom, President Rodrigo Duterte said on Wednesday as he greeted its members on its fifth anniversary.

MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday ordered the creation of the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) Hospital, Malacañang confirmed.

In signing Executive Order No. 154, Duterte ordered the establishment of the hospital as well as the  Inter-Agency Committee on the OFW Hospital (ICOH).

The ICOH will be headed by the Secretary of the Department of Labor and Employment and co-chaired by the Secretary of Health.

“We consider the establishment of this specialty hospital devoted to OFWs as a long overdue recognition of the valuable contribution of Filipino migrant workers to the economy and to the nation,” Cabinet secretary and acting presidential spokesperson Karlo Nograles said in a statement.
