Año: Only 8 NCR areas are under granular lockdown

MANILA, Philippines — Only eight areas in Metro Manila are currently under granular lockdown, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said Tuesday.

In a briefing with President Rodrigo Duterte aired Tuesday morning, Año said this only affects 26 households and 70 individuals.

The eight areas are part of the 77 areas across the country placed under granular lockdown, affecting a total of 99 households and 272 individuals.

This is further down from 399 areas under granular lockdown recorded on Nov. 13.

“Ibig sabihin nito ay epektibo ang ginagawa nating alert level system at patuloy na bumababa ang kaso ng ating COVID-19,” Año said.

(This means the alert level system we are implementing is effective and the number of COVID-19 cases are going down.)

The Department of Health has classified the Philippines under minimal risk for COVID-19 with Metro Manila at low risk classification.

During the briefing, Duterte said he is seeing “better days ahead” as the COVID-19 situation in the country continues to improve, citing the downward trend of cases of the severe respiratory illness.
