Motorcycle-for-hire driver arrested in Leyte drug bust

Three police officers of the Caloocan City Police Station (CPS) were arrested on Saturday for reportedly extorting “visitation fees” from the families of detainees, according to the Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG) of the Philippine National Police (PNP).

ORMOC CITY – Law enforcers arrested a motorcycle-for-hire driver for allegedly keeping and selling shabu (methamphetamine) worth at least P340,000 in a drug bust in Barangay Mazawalo, Palompon town in Leyte on Friday, September 3.

Rex Marquez, 30, did not resist arrest.

Agent Jeffrey Placido of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) said the suspect used his being a motorcycle-for-hire driver as a front in distributing illegal drugs in neighboring municipalities of Palompon.

Marquez denied the allegations against him.

Charges for violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 were being readied by the PDEA against the suspect who is temporarily detained at their custodial facility in Palo, Leyte.
