TUGUEGARAO CITY––At least 32 new cases of the more transmissible Delta variant of COVID-19 were traced to the Cagayan Valley region, the Department of Health said on Monday, Aug. 30.

The Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit of the DOH said the results were from specimens tested on Aug. 25 and 26.

Fifteen of these cases were recorded in Isabela province, while 10 were in Cagayan province.

Five cases were in Nueva Vizcaya and two in Quirino. Batanes remains free of the variant.

The DOH said 31 of these cases were locally transmitted, while one from Ilagan City was traced to an overseas Filipino worker.

Of these Delta variant cases, two had died, while the rest had recovered, but contact tracing was still underway, authorities said.

On Aug. 12, the region had registered 16 cases of the Delta variant.
