MANILA, Philippines — Taal Volcano spewed more sulfur dioxide on Sunday, as volcanologists warned residents in nearby towns in Batangas province to take precaution against volcanic hazards and volcanic smog.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology on Monday said Taal’s sulfur dioxide emission averaged 15,416 tons per day on Sunday, marking another increase in emissions from the restive volcano.
Taal also spewed steam plumes, which rose to 3,000 meters high before drifting toward the north-northwest direction.
Volcanologists said this was due to the rise of hot volcanic fluids in the main crater. Between Sunday and Monday, 27 volcanic quakes were recorded.
