Work, classes suspended in Camarines Sur as ‘Dante’ nears

No classes in Malabon, parts of Tanza, Cavite Aug 27

No classes or a shift to modular learning were implemented in Malabon and a dozen barangays of Tanza in Cavite province on Tuesday, August 27, 2024.

LEGAZPI CITY –– The Camarines Sur local government ordered Wednesday the suspension of work in its government offices and online classes at all levels in public and private schools, due to the threat of Tropical Storm “Dante” (international name: Choi-wan).

Camarines Sur Gov. Miguel Luis “Migz” Villafuerte said the suspension of work in other government agencies and private companies is highly encouraged and left this to the discretion of their respective heads.

Villafuerte said all offices directly involved with disaster risk reduction and management and delivery of vital services should continue operating.

Earlier, local officials were directed to implement the pre-emptive evacuation of residents in high-risk areas while the province was on red alert status.

The state weather bureau reported in its 5 a.m. Wednesday bulletin that TS Dante was off the southwestern coast of Masbate province and heading towards Romblon.

It had maximum sustained winds of 65 km per hour near the center and a gustiness up to 90 km per hour.
