MANILA, Philippines — Out of the 30 hospitals in Metro Manila that were placed under critical status in terms of bed capacity solely for COVID-19 patients, 15 have already reached 100 percent bed occupancy based on the latest data from the Department of Health (DOH) as of April 28.
The hospitals that have reported full bed occupancy were:
A Zarate General Hospital Alabang Medical Center Bermudez Polymedic Hospital I Calalang General Hospital E Zarate Hospital F.Y. Manalo Medical Foundation Marikina Valley Medical Center Medical Center Parañaque, Inc. Metro North Medical Center and Hospital Inc. Pasig Doctors Medical Center, Inc. Recuenco General Hospital, Inc. The figures decreased from the previous 42 hospitals classified as critical and 22 under full bed occupancy last April 21.
Around 27 hospitals were meanwhile listed under the high-risk status.
The recent data also bared that 156 facilities have submitted their data and were categorized based on their occupancy levels while only 155 hospitals were listed in the health department’s COVID-19 tracker last week.
In addition, around 71.67 percent or 797 of 1,112 total Intensive Care Units (ICU) beds solely for COVID-19 patients in Metro Manila hospitals are already in use, according to the same DOH data.
The health department further indicated that as of the same date, 53.55 percent or 2,965 of 5,537 isolation beds, and 62.66 percent or 2,000 of 3,192 ward beds in NCR are likewise occupied.
Overall, it noted that the bed occupancy rate for the whole NCR reached 58.6 percent, with 5,762 of the total 9,841 beds in use. This is lower than the recorded 64.6 percent bed occupancy rate last week
DOH classifies occupancy levels for COVID-19 beds in health centers as either critical, high risk, moderate, and safe.
Under the critical level, hospitals have already reached more than 85 percent of their bed occupancy for COVID-19 patients.
Hospitals are classified as high risk if 70 percent but not more than 85 percent of its COVID-19 beds are occupied, while those with a COVID-19 bed capacity of 60 to 70 percent rate are classified as moderate.
Hospitals fall under the safe level if their bed utilization rate is less than 60 percent.
