MANILA, Philippines — The Supreme Court on Saturday extended the physical closure of courts in the National Capital Judicial Region and nearby provinces throughout the Holy Week due to the “alarming surge” of the new coronavirus cases in the country.

Acting Chief Justice Estela Perlas Bernabe said the courts include those in the metro, as well as the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, Court of Tax Appeals, Sandiganbayan, and courts in Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna and Rizal provinces.

All hearings in these courts are temporarily suspended during this period, except on urgent matters.
