LUCENA CITY – After experiencing temporary relief from having zero coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases, the island province of Romblon has recorded two new validated virus carriers on Feb. 13, authorities said.

The Department of Health in Romblon reported on its Facebook on Saturday (Feb. 13) that as of their 10 a.m. bulletin, two Covid-19 patients from the towns of Alcantara and Romblon became tested positive for the disease.

They were the only two individuals who tested positive from reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) laboratory tests that were conducted on 68 islanders, report said.

The test results of 18 others are still pending.

Both patients contracted the virus from their localities. No other details on the two new cases were provided.

The province, still under the modified general community quarantine, has logged a total of 133 Covid-19 cases since the pandemic broke out in March last year.

At total of 128 Covid-19 patients in the province have already recovered, while three others succumbed to the dreaded respiratory illness.

Early Saturday, the municipality of Santa Fe announced on social media that the lone active virus carrier in the province, a 34-year-old woman from the locality, has been declared by local health authorities as “recovered” after she completed a 14-day quarantine period in an isolation facility.

All close contacts of the former patient who were subjected to RT-PCR tests also tested negative for the virus.
