MANILA, Philippines The Quezon City government has so far identified over a million individuals for its “priority” group in the Covid-19 mass vaccination drive.

Mayor Joy Belmonte said Friday the 1.06 million individuals in the local government’s priority list represent a chunk of the 1.6 million people it targets to vaccinate in order to achieve herd immunity.

Belmonte said medical front liners, barangay health emergency response teams, senior citizens, indigent populations, uniformed personnel, and essential workers comprise their priority group for Covid-19 inoculation.

“We are following the protocols set by the national government with regard to the priority listing and we have identified a whopping 1.06 million people belonging to this priority group,” Belmonte said in an interview with ABS-CBN News Channel.

“[The 1.6 million] is 80 percent of our total population, which is the herd immunity percentage, minus the children who cannot be vaccinated,” she said.

The city chief executive estimated that her city’s vaccination program could be finished in six to eight months.

Earlier, the Quezon City government identified vaccination sites for its Covid-19 mass vaccination campaign.
