LUCENA CITY –– Two tricycle passengers died and one was injured after their vehicle was hit by a speeding van along the Maharlika Highway in Calauag town in Quezon province on Tuesday night.
A Calauag police report on Wednesday identified the fatalities as Modesto Lazaga and Cesar Epa, both passengers of a tricycle driven by Renato Oriendo.
The report said a Toyota Hi-Ace driven by Edwin Barretto occupied the opposite lane and hit the oncoming tricycle while traversing one section of the highway in Barangay Binutas around 9 p.m.
Lazaga and Epa died on the spot, while Oriendo suffered injuries.
Barreto was detained at the local police jail, while a case of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicides will be filed against him.
