MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines on Saturday documented 1,952 new coronavirus disease cases, boosting the total count of infections to 485,797.

The Department of Health’s case 4 p.m. bulletin showed that the new infections pushed active COVID-19 cases to 26,784.

Meanwhile, the health department reported 291 more recoveries, raising the total to 449,615. The death toll due to the severe respiratory disease reached has 9,398, with 34 new deaths.

Seven duplicated cases, including three recoveries, were removed from the country’s caseload. Three recovered cases were reclassified as fatalities, said DOH.

Also, seven molecular laboratories failed to submit COVID-19 records to the DOH on Jan. 8 (Friday). The nation’s health department previously announced that it will suspend the license of a laboratory if it fails to submit virus cases on time.

The DOH earlier said it will determine if gatherings during the New Year and Christmas celebrations have caused a surge in COVID-19 infections nationwide.
