MANILA, Philippines — The Pasay City local government is encouraging its residents to do backyard farming to ensure food security.

Mayor Emi Calixto Rubiano said pocket gardens in the community would benefit hundreds of residents through the “Enganyuhing magtanim sa inyong barangay” project also supported by the Department of Science and Technology.

The project will start in Barangay 193 near Ninoy Aquino International Airport where residents will be trained in urban farming. This includes farming hydroponically grown vegetables, nutrition, environment, and waste management. —JODEE A. AGONCILLO
