MANILA, Philippines — Heavy rains from Tropical Depression Vicky have left eight people dead, the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) said Monday.

Five deaths were recorded in Caraga region, two from Eastern Visayas, and one from Davao region, the NDRRMC said in its latest report.

Two people were injured and one was reported missing in Caraga region.

In an interview with ABS CBN News Channel, NDRRMC spokesperson Mark Timbal said around 36,000 people were affected by the tropical cyclone in Davao and Caraga regions.

He could not immediately give the number of people evacuated but said that some of those displaced in Caraga region have started to return to their homes and “some evacuation centers have been emptied.”

Vicky left the Philippine area of responsibility on Sunday afternoon after devastating the region of Mindanao and parts of Luzon and Visayas.
