MANILA, Philippines — The removal of cannabis, or marijuana, from the list of Schedule IV drugs has limited implications and will have no immediate impact on the country’s drug-control policies and actions, the Dangerous Drugs Board and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency said in a joint statement.

The agencies issued the statement after the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs downgraded its classification of cannabis. The agencies reminded the public that there are still local laws that prohibit the use of marijuana in the Philippines. —PATRICIA DENISE M. CHIU
